Helping Your Kids with their To-Dos (Free Resource!)
If your kids are anything like mine (and like me!), they need frequent reminders to complete the daily tasks at-hand. And if you’re anything like me, you become exhausted reminding them to do the same dozen things every day.
Checklists work well for me to organize and make progress on my tasks, and I have found they work very well for my kids, too. It helps them to know what is expected of them, track their progress, and establish routines that will serve them for life.
These lists make the daily tasks more fun and less mundane. When laminated and used with dry erase markers (our favorites are linked here), they can even add doodles, smiley faces, or their own items to remember or celebrate!
Just one piece of advice: Incorporate these, or any new habit, with clarity and great patience. Adults often give themselves 21 days to settle into a new habit… Give your kids at least that long. Be clear when you begin, but be patient with their frustrations or the clunkiness that comes with starting something new.
[Bonus tip: Make a list for yourself, or otherwise let your kids see your tasks written, also. Camaraderie feels good to your kids, and knowing you’re “in it together” may be a great encouragement to them as they get into the new rhythm!]
Did you incorporate these lists with your kids? Send me a message and let me know how it’s going!
